First Trip Out 2016 Kentucky Horse Park

Here We Go!

All week we have been busy checking out the RV, making sure all systems are a go. This trip isn't just our first trip out this year its also our first camping trip with our new dog Neville. We are still newbies to the RV life so bringing a dog in the mix could be challenging. Thanks to a tip from our favorite girl camper we have been taking Neville on short truck rides to prepare him for the open road.

As always we start our season off with a local campground. This year we chose to stay at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground only 40 minutes away from home. What a great campground, where else can you look out your window and see horses being prepared for their early morning competitions. The Horse Park is known for it's equestrian games. While I am not the horse expert that I should be living in the horse capital of the world, I do appreciate the skill level it takes for these horses and riders to compete.

We booked our trip 3 weeks in advance. With an average temperature of 55 degrees we did not hesitate from pulling our 21 foot Salem Cruise Lite out of it's winter storage. If you live in Kentucky you know not to bet on the weather, and if you have ever gone camping with the Morris Family you know to prepare for rain. Temperatures got down to 32 with high winds and a little snow. Needless to say our short haired puppy is not sure camping is for him just yet, but thankfully we got him a jacket. The sun did come out and gave us a chance to see the horses and of course we finished off the evening with a nice campfire.

Georgetown has a nice little downtown with some great locally owned restaurants. We decided to try Fava's, a throwback to a 1950's dinner. As much as we were looking forward to a milkshake, there just wasn't room after we ate diner. We really enjoy trying new places to eat so we usually eat out once whenever we go to a campsite.
